g729 codec not working

Greetings:

I am running Asterisk version 1.4.21.2

I purchased a g729a/b codec lic.

The transmit and receive rates are between 20-25kbps

From the cli show translation command, produces a table with no values for g729

There is one phone attached to a linksys pap2t ATA. If I set this device to only use the preferred g729 codec, calls will not go through.

How do I specify that traffic will only be passed using the g729 codec?

Be sure your /usr/lib/asterisk/module xxG729xx.so have exec right

Hi

Have you followed the install instructions ? and run the test tool to get the best version and also registered the codecs correctly ?
what does “core show g729” say ?

Ian

The test tool told me to use nocona, but I have an opteron processor. After I instaled the opteron codec version it works.

Now the command g729 show, returns the number of encoders/decoders currently in use.

Is there any way to see the channel bandwith usage, that the g729 codec is consuming?

Hi

Not online but something like MRTG will show you but basicly its about 20 -30 K on average.

you can use iftop - you’ll see bandwidth per ip/port you’re dealing with
