Error when make Executed

I get the following error when i write “make” command. Kindly resolve the issue so that i could move ahead.
Error is
"
menuselect/menuselect --check-deps menuselect.makeopts
make:expand.c:489:allocated_variable_append:assertion ‘current_variable_set_list-next !=0’ failed.
make: *** [utils] aborted
"

I have run the following command
menuselect/menuselect --check-deps menuselect.makeopts

but now the error is different.
Error is
"
make: expand.c:489:allocated_variable_append:assertion ‘current_variable_set_list-next!=0’ failed
make:*** [utils] Aborted
"

I have changed my asterisk release from 1.4.0 to 1.2.15. But its working fine now.

In order to successfully build v1.4.x, you must have make v3.80 or above.
