Does asterisk.ctl exist?

(checked other people’s post with similar issues but didn’t find a solution)
i have installed asterisk 18. i am following the installation process from the definitive guide 5th edition but using ubunutu.

the service starts without issues but i get errors when trying to use

asterisk -rvvv

Unable to connect to remote asterisk (does /var/run/asterisk/asterisk.ctl exist?)

i have resolved by changing config.ini and removing sqlalchemy. it seems i can’t get it to work, maybe i wil make another topic on how to get it to work
