Biz line and voice mail

Good day, I am new to Asterisk, and thank you in advance for any help.

I have done some googling, and it looks like I can’t use a regular modem with asterisk, and a regular PTSN standard analog phone line, is this correct?

What I want to do is this:

  1. I have a basic business line, no voicemail or anything.

  2. I want to install asterisk on an old PC with a modem

  3. Just use it to receive Voicemail, nothing else

  4. If possible, send a notification, or the voicemail itself as an attachment to my email.

Is any of this possible?
