Backup eats up disk space won't finish

I just installed a new system and tried to run the freepbx backup module. There are only 10 extensions on the system and no recording or mp3s that would cause the backup to be any larger than 25 or 30meg (size of backup on similar systems).

When I run it, it runs for at least 30 minutes and I never see any files get create in var/lib/backups. The hard drive is showing that 10gb has been used and I don’t know where to look for whatever created the bloat.

Is there a temp folder where the backup module writes before it dumps the tar.gz file to var/lib/backups?

I am using asterisk 1.6.2.13 and freepbx 2.7.0.x
