Auto answering/voice mail and prompts

we currently are using a older version of astrisk.
We have a family run restaurant and the phone is automatically answered by the voice mail system. It gives the person several voice prompts to choose from.
I am wondering if there is a way to change the system not to pick up the call immideately for when we are open but so it would pick up after the 3rd ring or so if we don’t answer the phone.

We like the system the way it is for when we are not open but would like to be able to turn the system on and turn it off easily and/or change the voice prompt easily.

If anybody could tell me how to do this that would be great.

You could tirn the voicemail / interactive assistant on or off automatically depending on the tie of day by useing Gotoiftime()

Alternatively, you could manually turn the system on or of by using a flag set in the asterisk database. The flag could be changed by dialing a an extension number.
