Asterisk-GUI installation- C Compiler error

Hi Everyone,
I have an installation of Asterisk 1.4 in Kubuntu 7.10. I tried to install asterisk-gui but failed. I have managed to download it’s svn but I have a problem regarding ./configure because an error occurs. It says C compiler cannot create executables. I looked on the config.log and found this:

Invocation command line was

$ ./configure

  I am new to Linux and I have no idea what this error means. Is there any version of gcc compiler that I need install? dependencies?. Hoping for your immediate reply.
